Full job description

The Trade Desk is seeking a senior Applied Scientist to develop and apply forecasting models using machine learning and deep learning to support advertising campaign planning and recommendations. The role involves end-to-end ownership from model design, research, building, deployment, and monitoring. Candidates must have strong experience in ML/DL, proficiency in Python, and familiarity with distributed computing platforms like EMR or Databricks. Responsibilities include collaborating with engineering and downstream teams, working on signal collection, feature engineering, and designing model success metrics. Requirements include 8+ years (BS/MS) or 6+ years (PhD) experience in data science or ML roles, experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow, and strong communication skills. What you'll do

  • Develop ML/deep learning based models end-to-end to support forecasting needs throughout advertising campaign lifecycle
  • Work on signal collection, feature construction, model evaluation and monitoring
  • Collaborate with engineering team on signal collection pipeline, model training, deployment, and monitoring
  • Collaborate with downstream teams to understand forecasting needs and design appropriate models
  • Design offline and online model success metrics and use data to drive iterative model improvement

Requirements

  • Proficient in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL)
  • Hands-on development of ML and DL solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms
  • Deep understanding of statistics and ML/DL models
  • Experience building deep learning models at large scale
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams of data scientists, engineers, and product managers
  • Familiarity with forecasting domain and application experience
  • Knowledge in privacy safe measurement and data storage is a plus
  • Data driven mindset with strong data intuition
  • BS/MS with 8+ years or PhD with 6+ years experience in DS or ML role involving product lifecycle from ideation to production
  • Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience running heavy workloads on distributed computing clusters (EMR or Databricks preferred)
  • Proficient in Python; strong Spark skills are a plus
