Full job description

FreeWheel, a Comcast company, seeks a Senior Software Engineer based in New York to design, build, and support a high-quality video advertising platform. Responsibilities include full lifecycle software development, technical specification, coding, testing, maintenance, support, innovation, and mentoring junior engineers. Candidates must have extensive experience in C/C++/Golang, database design, network programming, large system software design, and preferably distributed and mission-critical systems. Strong problem-solving skills, knowledge of SDLC and Agile methodologies, teamwork, communication skills, and ability to work under pressure are required. Advertising industry experience is a plus. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and occasional extended hours for production support. Bachelor's degree preferred with 7-10 years relevant experience. Salary range is $148,018.20 to $222,027.30 depending on experience. Benefits include commission/bonus eligibility and comprehensive support programs.

What you'll do

  • Be a feature owner responsible for complete lifecycle of software development including design, prototyping, implementation, testing, maintenance and technical support
  • Produce technical specifications and determine operational feasibility
  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code
  • Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures
  • Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
  • Document and maintain software functionality
  • Tailor and deploy engineering tools, processes and metrics
  • Support overall business and solve issues technically
  • Serve as expert of online advertising industry and drive continuous technical innovation
  • Partner with engineering, product and operations teams to incorporate innovations
  • Mentor junior software engineers
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements and conduct integration analysis
  • Design new software and web applications, support applications under development and customize current applications
  • Assist with software update process and roll-outs of software releases
  • Train representatives and operations staff on internally developed software applications
  • Research, write and edit documentation and technical requirements
  • Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on practices, procedures and techniques
  • Present and defend architectural, design and technical choices
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
  • Maintain regular, consistent and punctual attendance; work nights and weekends as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with C/C++/Golang, DB design and network programming
  • Experience with large system software design and development
  • Experience with distributed systems and mission-critical systems is preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in problem solving and technical innovation
  • Strong passion with learning/practicing new technics
  • Knowledgeable about SDLC, Agile and Software Engineering Methodology
  • Team working skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to work under pressure
  • Strong ability and persistency on technical support
  • Ability to work close with cross-function teams
  • Willingness to accept additional working time besides normal working hours for handling production issues
  • Advertising industry experience is a plus
