Full job description

The Sr. Software Engineer at FreeWheel is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting software solutions for the Ad Serving team. This role requires 4+ years of experience with compiled languages (C++ preferred), databases, and network programming, along with strong object-oriented programming skills and proficiency with Git. Responsibilities include leading technical design and development of cloud-based and distributed systems on Linux, using technologies such as Snowflake and Aerospike. The engineer will mentor junior staff, collaborate with stakeholders, optimize algorithms, document development, and ensure software quality. The position requires excellent communication, adaptability, and the ability to work variable schedules including nights and weekends. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 7-10 years of relevant work experience are preferred.

What you'll do

  • Design, own, and deliver high-quality software
  • Function effectively as a member of a team
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Interact with management and other development group members
  • Provide technical leadership in designing, developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and owning servers and cloud-based systems
  • Write, maintain, and deploy cloud-based software and distributed computational systems using Linux
  • Develop software and software architecture using C++
  • Plan and execute development, testing, and deployment of new software features and improvements to cloud-based infrastructure
  • Use data warehouses including Snowflake and distributed databases including Aerospike
  • Analyze and optimize algorithm performance
  • Document development activity
  • Research, write, and edit documentation and technical requirements
  • Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements
  • Work with Quality Assurance to ensure applications fit specifications
  • Review code
  • Disseminate software best practices
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in significant matters
  • Work nights, weekends, variable schedules, and overtime as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional experience with compiled languages (C++ preferred), databases, and network programming
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git
  • Ability to adapt quickly to an existing, complex environment
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Go Lang experience is a plus
  • Ad Tech experience is a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of coursework and experience
  • 7-10 years relevant work experience
