Full job description

The Trade Desk is hiring a Senior Director, Chief of Staff to the Chief Marketing Officer. This leadership role supports the global Marketing organization by improving decision velocity, building operating mechanisms, and aligning Marketing with commercial impact. Responsibilities include partnering with the CMO on strategic priorities, managing Marketing operating rhythms, leading high-priority initiatives, coordinating cross-functional teams, supporting budget and resource planning, preparing executive communications, driving organizational design and digital transformation, and managing special projects. Candidates should have 12+ years of experience in marketing operations, strategy, business operations, or related leadership roles, strong program management and communication skills, experience with large-scale Marketing organizations, and familiarity with AI and marketing technology. What you'll do

  • Partner closely with the CMO to clarify priorities, frame tradeoffs, surface risks, and translate strategic direction into clear operating plans
  • Own and continuously improve the Marketing operating rhythm including annual planning, quarterly priorities, leadership meetings, business reviews, budget planning, and progress tracking
  • Build lightweight systems for prioritization and decision-making with clear context, inputs, owners, and accountability
  • Manage information flow across Marketing and key cross-functional partners
  • Lead high-priority Marketing initiatives requiring cross-functional alignment and strong execution discipline
  • Drive coordination across Marketing, Finance, People, Product, Commercial, Legal, Procurement, and other partner teams
  • Partner with Finance and Marketing leaders on budget planning, vendor management, investment governance, and resource allocation
  • Support the CMO in preparing internal and external communications including narratives, briefing documents, and communication plans
  • Partner with Marketing leadership and People teams on organizational design, talent planning, team effectiveness, change management, and business transformation
  • Lead Marketing’s digital transformation agenda including AI adoption, workflow modernization, and scalable operating improvements
  • Create mechanisms to make progress, blockers, ownership, and outcomes visible across Marketing leadership
  • Drive special projects including ambiguous, complex, or cross-divisional initiatives

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in marketing operations, strategy, business operations, consulting, program management, or related leadership roles
  • Experience supporting or partnering directly with senior executives, preferably in a global technology, media, advertising, SaaS, or marketplace business
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives from strategy through execution
  • Experience building operating cadences, planning processes, executive forums, decision frameworks, or business review mechanisms
  • Strong executive communication skills, including written narratives, presentations, briefing materials, and leadership updates
  • Experience working closely with Marketing, Finance, People, Product, Commercial, or other cross-functional leadership teams
  • Comfortable operating as a trusted advisor to a senior executive with judgment, discretion, and maturity
  • Strategic and execution-oriented with ability to prioritize and pivot quickly
  • Highly structured and organized with strong program management instincts
  • Skilled at influencing without authority and building consensus across senior stakeholders
  • Experienced in or closely adjacent to large-scale Marketing organizations
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and diagnosing organizational friction
  • Strong business judgment connecting Marketing priorities to company strategy and commercial impact
  • Data-informed and financially literate with experience partnering with Finance or business operations teams
  • Curious about AI and digital transformation with practical fluency in emerging tools
  • Low ego, high trust, and calm under pressure
