Full job description

The Sr. Software Engineer at FreeWheel is responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions for the Ad Serving team, which supports the demand side platform advertising business. The role requires designing, owning, and delivering high-quality software, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with management and development teams. Candidates should have 4+ years of experience with compiled languages (C++ preferred), databases, network programming, and object-oriented programming concepts. Proficiency with Git, Linux, and cloud-based distributed systems is required. Experience with Go Lang and Ad Tech is a plus. Responsibilities include technical leadership, software development and deployment, performance optimization, documentation, and collaboration with stakeholders and QA. The position requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and overtime as needed. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 7-10 years of relevant work experience are preferred. The job is full-time and on-site in Reston, Virginia.

What you'll do

  • Design, own, and deliver high-quality software
  • Function effectively as a member of a team
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Interact with management and other development group members
  • Provide technical leadership in designing, developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and owning servers and cloud-based systems
  • Write, maintain, and deploy cloud-based software and distributed computational systems using Linux
  • Develop software and software architecture using C++
  • Plan and execute development, testing, and deployment of new software features and improvements to cloud-based infrastructure
  • Use data warehouses including Snowflake and distributed databases including Aerospike
  • Analyze and optimize algorithm performance
  • Document development activity and technical requirements
  • Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements
  • Work with Quality Assurance to ensure applications meet specifications
  • Review code and disseminate software best practices
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion
  • Work nights, weekends, variable schedules, and overtime as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional experience with compiled languages (C++ preferred), databases, and network programming
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git
  • Ability to adapt quickly to an existing, complex environment
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Go Lang experience is a plus
  • Ad Tech experience is a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of coursework and experience
  • 7-10 years relevant work experience
