Full job description

This senior full-time software engineering role based in Reston, Virginia involves designing, developing, and integrating software solutions aligned with business needs. The candidate will analyze system requirements, customize applications, assist with software updates, mentor junior engineers, collaborate with QA, troubleshoot complex issues, and conduct training for users. Required skills include 5+ years in software or platform engineering, proficiency in Go or Python, Kubernetes, public cloud platforms (AWS, OCI), CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Argo CD), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, GitOps), and strong problem-solving and communication skills. Preferred experience includes operating production Kubernetes environments, managed Kubernetes services (EKS, OKE), observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry), and building internal developer platforms. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is preferred. The role requires flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and integrate software solutions aligned with business needs
  • Analyze system requirements and customize applications for optimal functionality
  • Assist with software update processes and software release roll-outs
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence
  • Engage with Quality Assurance to ensure software meets technical specifications
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in software applications and systems
  • Synthesize market research and industry trends to inform project strategies and enhance product offerings
  • Conduct training sessions for operational staff on internally developed applications
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in significant matters
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance; work nights and weekends as necessary
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering or Platform Engineering related fields
  • Experience with at least one programming language such as Go or Python
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized applications
  • Experience working with public cloud platforms such as AWS, OCI
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Argo CD
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and GitOps practices
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and collaboration abilities
  • Preferred: Experience operating production Kubernetes environments
  • Preferred: Experience with EKS, OKE, or other managed Kubernetes services
  • Preferred: Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry
  • Preferred: Experience building internal developer platforms or self-service tooling
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of coursework and experience
