Full job description

The Trade Desk is seeking a senior software engineer to join the User Trail team responsible for the analytics and observability platform capturing user interactions across core web applications. The role involves building and improving tools for data access company-wide, owning feature delivery in event tracking and data platforms, extending governed data access, acting as a technical expert, partnering with various teams to translate needs into features, raising quality standards, mentoring engineers, and contributing to technical design decisions. Candidates should have deep experience building and operating backend services or data pipelines at scale, strong communication skills, focus on system reliability, collaboration skills, and the ability to work with ambiguity. Experience or interest in modern data warehouses, lakehouse platforms, event-driven pipelines, or SDK development is required. The position is full-time based in London.

What you'll do

  • Build and improve tools for company-wide data access including self-service dashboards and AI-powered assistants
  • Own end-to-end delivery of significant features in event tracking and data platform
  • Extend safe, well-governed access to data across the company
  • Act as a technical expert for parts of the system such as client-side SDKs, ingestion pipeline, or data warehouse layer
  • Partner with support, trading, business, and product teams to understand needs and translate them into tools and features
  • Raise quality and testing standards and mentor engineers through code review, design discussions, and pairing
  • Contribute to technical design decisions and evolve team tools and processes

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on experience building and operating backend services or data pipelines at scale
  • Comfortable owning a project from design through production
  • Experience with or strong interest in modern data warehouse/lakehouse platforms, event-driven pipelines, or SDK development for client applications
  • Clear communication with engineers and non-technical stakeholders
  • Focus on reliability, correctness, edge cases, monitoring, and failure modes
  • Collaborates well across teams and disciplines
  • Mentorship and code review experience
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and turning loosely defined problems into concrete plans
