The Trade Desk is hiring a Senior Identity Engineer to design, build, and operate large-scale distributed systems and data products processing petabyte-scale data. The role involves collaborating with data scientists, platform engineers, and product teams to deliver reliable, high-performance systems globally. Candidates must have 7+ years of software engineering experience in data-intensive or platform domains, with strong ownership of large data engineering projects, distributed systems expertise, and hands-on experience with big data pipelines using Spark or ETL. Proficiency in Java, C#, SQL, and familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, and service-oriented architectures is required. The role focuses on building and maintaining identity graphs linking signals across devices and environments in a privacy-conscious manner, and developing frameworks to evaluate system performance. What you'll do
- Design, build, and operate large-scale distributed systems and data products processing petabyte-scale data
- Collaborate with data scientists, platform engineers, and product teams to deliver reliable, high-performance systems at global scale
- Build and maintain large-scale identity graphs linking signals across devices, channels, and environments in a privacy-conscious way
- Develop frameworks to evaluate identity graph performance measuring accuracy, coverage, and quality
- Work at the intersection of data engineering, distributed systems, and data science/ML
- Own systems end-to-end with a focus on reliability and scalability
Requirements
- 7+ years of impactful work in Software Engineering, with experience in data-intensive or platform-oriented domains
- Experience in the Identity space is a plus
- Track record of ownership with significant, self-directed, end-to-end contributions to large data engineering projects
- Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems across cloud and physical infrastructure
- Hands-on experience with high-throughput pipelines processing billions of records using technologies like Spark, ETL, or similar
- Commercial development skills in Object-Oriented programming (Java, C# and SQL) and design
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, and web-based, service-oriented architectures
- Product-focused mindset with passion for client delight and industry openness
- Ability to collaborate and foster diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives
