Full job description

The Ads Data Platform Team at Microsoft AI is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Big Data Systems based in Redmond, Washington. The role involves designing and operating high-scale, high-performance systems processing billions of events daily, building data applications impacting Microsoft Ads growth, and working with distributed systems, machine learning, and big data technologies. Responsibilities include collaborating with BingAds stakeholders to define feature requirements, designing secure and compliant systems, implementing and reviewing code, maintaining live services on-call, improving developer tools, and optimizing system performance. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, 4+ years coding experience in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, and preferred experience with distributed systems and big data technologies like Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, Flink, Scala, Azure, and machine learning. The position is full-time, on-site in Redmond, WA. Salary ranges from $119,800 to $234,700 annually, with higher ranges for San Francisco Bay Area and NYC. What you'll do

  • Work with BingAds stakeholders to determine requirements for new features to drive up Ads business
  • Create system design for feature requirements ensuring security and compliance
  • Create plans for testing and assuring quality solutions
  • Implement features with high efficiency, extensibility, diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability
  • Review code to meet team and Microsoft quality standards
  • Maintain operations of live service on a rotational, on-call basis
  • Identify solutions and mitigations for issues and escalate as necessary
  • Act as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) on call to monitor system for degradation or downtime
  • Build knowledge and share ideas to improve software developer tools
  • Contribute to automation in production and deployment of product features
  • Profile and analyze distributed system performance and capacity bottlenecks
  • Propose and implement solutions to improve system latency and capacity

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • 4+ years’ experience in Distributed Systems and Big Data Technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, HDFS, Kafka, Flink, Scala
  • Experience in Azure
  • Experience in machine learning and online system design, implementation and qualification
