Full job description

The Ads Data Platform Team at Microsoft AI is hiring a Senior Software Engineer based in Redmond, WA or Mountain View, CA. The team builds data platforms processing billions of ad-serving events daily to support analytics, machine learning, and real-time reporting. Responsibilities include designing and operating high-scale systems, collaborating with BingAds stakeholders to define and implement features, maintaining live services with on-call rotations, and improving system performance. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 4+ years of engineering experience coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, and the ability to pass Microsoft Cloud background checks. Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree or 10+ years experience, expertise in Azure, machine learning, distributed systems, and big data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, Flink, and Scala. Salary ranges from $119,800 to $234,700 annually in most US locations, and $160,200 to $261,000 in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. This is a full-time, on-site role with Microsoft’s expectation of working from the office at least four days per week for employees living within commuting distance.

What you'll do

  • Work with BingAds stakeholders to determine requirements for new features to drive Ads business
  • Create system design for feature requirements ensuring security and compliance
  • Develop features with high efficiency, extensibility, diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability
  • Review code to meet team and Microsoft quality standards
  • Maintain live service operations on a rotational on-call basis, monitor system for issues and respond within SLA
  • Contribute to development of automation for production and deployment
  • Profile and analyze distributed system performance and capacity bottlenecks and implement improvements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements including Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience
  • Experience in Azure
  • Experience in Machine learning and online system design, implementation and qualification
  • 2+ years experience in Distributed Systems and Big Data Technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, HDFS, Kafka, Flink, Scala
