Full job description

Microsoft is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Auction Logic team focused on building, testing, deploying, and monitoring the Monetize real-time advertising platform. The role involves leading engineering efforts, collaborating with teams, owning platform architecture, and setting roadmaps. Responsibilities include designing scalable solutions, participating in planning, prototyping features, innovating build processes, code reviews, debugging production issues, and mentoring junior engineers. Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, 4+ years coding experience in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, and meet Microsoft security screening requirements. Preferred qualifications include 5+ years professional development experience, expertise in distributed, multi-threaded systems on Linux, advanced optimization, and strong CS fundamentals. The position is full-time, on-site in Redmond, WA. Salary range is $119,800 to $234,700 USD annually, with higher ranges for select metro areas.

What you'll do

  • Lead cross-team engineering efforts to build business critical products for publishers and buyers
  • Collaborate with engineers and product teams
  • Own significant areas of the Monetize real-time platform and act as architect
  • Participate in setting roadmap and direction for areas of responsibility
  • Design and implement scalable solutions including new features and enhancements
  • Participate in planning sessions with Product Management and Engineering leads
  • Produce prototype features quickly and gather client feedback
  • Innovate in new features, build processes, and product development lifecycle
  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback
  • Support and debug production issues and provide fixes expediently
  • Mentor junior engineers on best practices
  • Determine user requirements for features
  • Develop design documents with little oversight
  • Create and implement code for products, services, or features
  • Break down larger work items and provide estimation
  • Act as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for on-call monitoring and restoration
  • Stay current with developments to improve availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
  • Pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
  • Preferred 5+ years professional software development experience
  • Experience building high performance, multi-threaded, distributed systems and applications, preferably in Linux
  • Experience practicing advanced optimization techniques
  • Solid understanding of architecture patterns and service-oriented architecture (SOA)
  • Excellent fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and time complexity
