Full job description
The Trade Desk is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to design, build, and scale data-driven solutions for forecasting, pacing, and recommendation systems. Responsibilities include developing forecasting models using statistical, ML, and deep learning methods; optimizing pacing algorithms; building custom scalable solutions; collaborating with product and engineering teams to deploy models; defining success metrics; conducting evaluations and A/B testing; and communicating results. Candidates must have strong experience in Python, deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), distributed computing (EMR, Databricks, Spark), and programmatic advertising preferred. Required qualifications include 5+ years (BS/MS) or 3+ years (PhD) experience in data science and ML roles with end-to-end project ownership. What you'll do
- Develop forecasting models using statistical, machine learning, and deep learning approaches
- Build and optimize pacing algorithms balancing short-term performance with long-term objectives and constraints
- Build custom solutions tailored to unique environment where off-the-shelf models don’t scale effectively
- Collaborate with product teams to understand business goals and translate them into actionable data science solutions
- Work closely with engineering teams to deploy models from prototype to production ensuring smooth integration
- Define success metrics, conduct offline evaluation and online experiments (A/B testing), and measure business impact
- Communicate technical results and tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
Requirements
- Proficient in open-source languages
- Strong passion for enhancing and expanding technical skills
- Hands-on development of predictive models and solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms
- Deep understanding of statistics and machine learning foundations
- Experience building data science solutions at scale
- Track record of owning projects end-to-end from research to production
- Experience partnering with cross-functional teams including data scientists, engineers, and product managers
- BS/MS with 5+ years or PhD with 3+ years experience in data science and machine learning roles
- Experience building ML models in always-on production systems
- Experience working with diverse technologies and data sources
- Strong experience in forecasting, pacing systems, or recommendation systems
- Proficient in Python
- Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
- Experience running heavy workloads on distributed computing clusters (EMR or Databricks)
- Experience leveraging Spark to work with large datasets
- Preferred experience in programmatic advertising and/or real-time auctions
