Full job description

Microsoft Advertising is hiring a Senior Applied Scientist to design and implement machine learning models and algorithms that improve ad relevance and user experience. The role focuses on building predictive models for user interactions with ads using techniques such as neural nets, transformers, generative AI, and reinforcement learning. Responsibilities include developing scalable algorithms, conducting A/B testing, building data pipelines, and applying latest AI research. Candidates must have a relevant degree with 4+ years experience or equivalent, programming and data analysis skills, and experience deploying large-scale ML models. The position is full-time, on-site in Mountain View, CA, with a salary range of $119,800 to $234,700 annually.

What you'll do

  • Develop and deploy cutting-edge machine learning models including transformers, generative AI, and reinforcement learning to optimize user interactions and ad relevance
  • Design scalable algorithms for online and offline systems for content selection, user engagement modeling, and ad generation
  • Drive experimentation through A/B testing and offline validation to evaluate model performance and refine user behavior predictions
  • Build robust data pipelines and frameworks for handling large-scale, high-dimensional datasets
  • Incorporate latest AI research advancements to drive innovation across Microsoft platforms

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience
  • OR Master's Degree in related field AND 3+ years related experience
  • OR Doctorate in related field AND 1+ year related experience
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements including Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Proven experience in programming and data analysis skills
  • 2+ years of experience in developing and deploying large-scale machine learning models
  • Proven expertise in Generative AI, deep learning, or transformers
  • 2+ years of experience in reinforcement learning and contextual bandits
