The Data Management Platform (DMP) team in Bing Ads at Microsoft AI is hiring a Principal Software Engineering Manager in Redmond, WA or Mountain View, CA. The role involves leading technical design, system architecture, automation, security, compliance, and people management for large-scale data pipelines and services. Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 6+ years of engineering experience coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience. Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree with 8+ years experience or Bachelor's with 12+ years. Responsibilities include fostering collaboration, enforcing security and compliance, managing project execution, guiding experimentation, overseeing deployment and live-site operations, and promoting continuous learning. The position requires passing Microsoft Cloud background checks and meeting security screening requirements. Salary ranges from $142,800 to $274,800 annually in the U.S., with higher ranges for San Francisco Bay area and New York City. Guide experimentation using feature flags and telemetry to inform product decisions
Oversee safe and optimized deployment practices including rollback plans and dependency monitoring
Drive people management by modeling leadership principles, coaching, and fostering growth
Establish and oversee telemetry, monitoring, and incident response processes
Lead live-site operations with incident response, playbook development, on-call improvements, and automated mitigation tools
Provide technical and people leadership in code reviews to ensure quality, test coverage, and coding standards
Oversee teams in producing maintainable, well-tested, secure, performant code and managing blockers
Develop best practices in debugging, incident retrospectives, and cost-effective problem resolution ensuring privacy and security
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python or equivalent experience
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
Pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Preferred: Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience or Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience or equivalent
