Full job description

Lead the development and scientific vision of a large-scale demand intelligence platform integrating machine learning and large language models for Microsoft Advertising. Responsibilities include defining modeling strategies, architecting ML pipelines, incorporating LLM components, overseeing cross-team collaboration, mentoring applied science teams, ensuring AI/ML governance and compliance, and driving innovation. Requires advanced degree or equivalent experience with 10+ years in data science, 5+ years deploying ML solutions, 3+ years technical leadership, expertise in ML techniques, programming (Python), ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), NLP, LLMs, big data and cloud platforms (Azure), MLOps, and AI governance. On-site role in Redmond, WA. Salary range USD 142,800 - 274,800 per year, with higher ranges for specific metro areas.

What you'll do

  • Define and drive modeling strategy for advertising recommendations platform using ML and generative AI
  • Architect end-to-end machine learning pipelines including data workflows, feature stores, model training, and deployment
  • Lead incorporation of LLM-based components for intelligent narrative generation
  • Oversee cross-team initiatives and coordinate with engineering, program management, and stakeholders
  • Mentor and develop applied science team, champion best practices in experimentation, coding, and MLOps
  • Ensure robust evaluation and governance of AI/ML solutions including metrics, monitoring, retraining, and Responsible AI compliance
  • Track emerging AI trends and drive incubation of innovative ideas to enhance the platform

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience
  • OR Master's Degree in related field AND 4+ years related experience
  • OR Doctorate in related field AND 3+ years related experience
  • OR equivalent experience
  • Preferred: Master's Degree AND 9+ years related experience or Doctorate AND 6+ years related experience or equivalent
  • 5+ years developing and deploying machine learning solutions in production with end-to-end ownership
  • 3+ years technical leadership experience in applied science or data science team
  • Extensive expertise in ML techniques for predictive analytics, pattern recognition, optimization
  • Strategic thinking and excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in programming (Python) and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Experience with natural language processing and large language models
  • Practical exposure applying LLMs to domain-heavy contexts with privacy and Responsible AI compliance
  • Experience with big data and cloud technologies (Azure Synapse, Data Lake, Azure ML, MLflow)
  • Proven track record of innovation and impact in AI products or research
  • High proficiency in MLOps and AI governance
  • Excellent cross-organizational leadership and collaboration skills
