Full job description

The Engineering Manager role in the Big Data Group oversees two backend microservice teams responsible for processing and delivering data within Adform's products. The manager is accountable for people management, project delivery, stakeholder alignment, and operational excellence. Responsibilities include hiring and mentoring engineers, planning and prioritizing backend projects, collaborating cross-functionally, ensuring system reliability and performance, refining team processes, communicating with stakeholders, and providing technical guidance. Requirements include proven leadership in backend or cross-functional teams, strong communication and collaboration skills, experience with agile project delivery, mentoring abilities, solid engineering best practices knowledge, problem-solving skills, and experience driving operational excellence. Preferred experience includes backend microservices development in Scala, Java, or Python within Big Data, knowledge of Kafka, Hadoop, Vertica, cloud technologies, and Adtech domain experience. What you'll do

  • Hire, mentor, and grow engineers fostering ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Plan, prioritise, and oversee execution of backend projects ensuring timely and high-quality delivery
  • Work closely with product owners, other development teams, and architects to achieve business goals
  • Own system reliability, performance, and monitoring; drive incident management and root-cause analysis
  • Continuously refine team processes (agile, CI/CD, testing) to boost productivity and quality
  • Communicate progress, risks, and technical trade-offs effectively with leadership and non-technical stakeholders
  • Provide technical guidance to support and challenge the team in architectural and design decisions ensuring scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in managing backend or cross-functional engineering teams
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to align engineers, product, and business stakeholders
  • Experience in project delivery with agile practices, prioritisation, and balancing short- vs. long-term goals
  • Ability to mentor and grow engineers, fostering career development and high performance
  • Solid understanding of engineering best practices
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills with a balance of technical depth and business impact
  • Track record of driving operational excellence in areas like performance, reliability, and incident management
  • Prior development experience in back-end micro services in Scala / Java / Python in Big Data Domain
  • Knowledge on technology used in Big Data domain like Kafka, Hadoop, Vertica, Cloud technology is an advantage
  • Prior experience in Adtech domain
