Full job description

Lead Backend Engineer responsible for designing, building, and owning distributed systems powering Zeta’s CRM platform. Collaborate with engineers and product managers to deliver a scalable, multichannel marketing platform. Requires deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and backend service development focused on performance, scalability, reliability, and concurrency. Lead design and development of mobile communication services (SMS, MMS, RCS). Translate business requirements into backend architectures. Architect and develop backend services and APIs. Ensure product quality through code reviews and testing. Debug and resolve production issues. Take ownership of critical platform components and provide technical leadership. Requirements include 10+ years experience with Java, Python, Ruby, or similar; strong background in distributed systems; experience with Kafka, Elasticsearch, Aerospike; familiarity with Snowflake, ClickHouse, Redshift; knowledge of Thrift, CI/CD, AWS; experience with containers, multi-tenant architectures, RESTful services, microservices, Agile, TDD, real-time streaming pipelines, and AI tools. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills required.

  • Debug issues, resolve production problems, implement enhancements
  • Take end-to-end ownership of critical platform components
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering team

Requirements

  • Strong academic credentials in computer science or related field
  • 10+ years experience building scalable, reliable backend systems
  • Experience with Java, Python, Ruby or similar server-side technologies
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (English instruction preferred)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • 8-12 years working experience with Python, Ruby and/or J2EE
  • 3-5 years experience as hands-on Lead engineer/technical architect
  • Strong experience with distributed systems and data infrastructure technologies
  • Experience with Kafka, Elasticsearch, Aerospike
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, ClickHouse, Redshift
  • Working knowledge of Thrift, CI/CD pipelines, AWS cloud services
  • Experience with container-based solutions
  • Experience with multi-tenant architectures (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
  • Experience building RESTful web services and Microservices
  • Experience owning and operating mission-critical services
  • Experience with Agile and Test-Driven Development
  • Experience building real-time streaming data pipelines
  • Experience with AI tools and AI-based development practices
  • Ability to work in fast-paced technology environment
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
