Full job description

Junior Software Engineer at FreeWheel responsible for developing software solutions for the Ad Serving team. The role involves producing high-quality software, working effectively in a team, and interacting with management. Requires 1+ years experience in compiled languages (C++ preferred), databases, network programming, and proficiency with Git. Responsibilities include designing, developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting servers and cloud-based systems, deploying software on Linux, developing software architecture in C++, using data warehouses like Snowflake and distributed databases like Aerospike, optimizing algorithms, documenting development activities, collaborating with stakeholders, reviewing code, and following software best practices. Must have excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and communication skills. Go Lang and Ad Tech experience are a plus. Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Position is full-time and on-site in Reston, Virginia.

  • Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot servers and cloud-based systems
  • Write, maintain, and deploy cloud-based software and distributed computational systems using Linux
  • Develop software and software architecture using C++
  • Execute development, testing, and deployment of new software features and improvements to cloud-based software infrastructure
  • Use data warehouses including Snowflake, and distributed databases including Aerospike
  • Analyze and optimize algorithm performance
  • Document all development activity
  • Research, write, and edit documentation and technical requirements
  • Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements
  • Work with Quality Assurance to determine if applications fit specifications
  • Review code
  • Follow software best practices
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance; work nights, weekends, variable schedules, and overtime as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 1+ years of professional experience with compiled languages (C++ preferred), databases, and network programming
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git
  • Ability to adapt quickly to an existing, complex environment
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Go Lang experience is a plus
  • Ad Tech experience is a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of coursework and experience
