Full job description

Appodeal seeks a Head of Product Development to lead product and engineering for its mobile gaming portfolio (WordMaker, Solitaire, Brick Blast). This senior hands-on leadership role requires 8+ years in software engineering with leadership in mobile gaming/product environments. The candidate must be proficient in Unity (C#), mobile game architecture, backend systems, and AI tools with demonstrated AI-native production experience. Responsibilities include defining product strategy, owning PRDs and roadmaps, managing product metrics, overseeing technical architecture, driving AI adoption, hands-on contribution to product and engineering work, leading a lean team, fostering a culture of ownership, and collaborating cross-functionally with monetization, UA, data, and RnD teams. Strong signals include founding a mobile gaming studio, scaling ad-monetized casual games, building internal tooling, and experience with CI/CD and analytics tools. Benefits include ownership without guardrails, working on real products with traction, AI-first environment, lean team, competitive salary, bonuses, and career growth. Location: Barcelona, Spain.

What you'll do

  • Define and evolve product strategy for games portfolio grounded in eProfit outcomes
  • Own quality of PRDs, roadmap decisions, and product hypotheses; write PRDs for highest-priority bets
  • Maintain live knowledge of product metrics: retention, ARPU, ARPDAU, experiment results
  • Own full technical architecture of product department including game clients (Unity), backend systems, release pipeline, internal tooling
  • Define engineering standards, development workflows, and code quality bar
  • Ensure reliability, performance, and scalability of all systems supporting games portfolio
  • Drive AI adoption across product and engineering functions from PRD generation to test automation and analytics agents
  • Build and iterate intelligence layer replacing manual coordination and reporting
  • Continuously improve development velocity through AI tooling and process optimization
  • Personally contribute to product work (specs, experiments, analysis) and engineering work (architecture decisions, code review, shipping core systems)
  • Lead by doing on highest-stakes initiatives; team should follow your PRDs and pull requests
  • Participate in debugging, optimization, and solving complex technical challenges
  • Lead, develop, and grow a lean team of Product Owners and ICs (Unity engineers, backend developers, design, QA)
  • Set high bar for ownership, speed, and AI fluency; address performance gaps directly
  • Foster culture of DRIs (Directly Responsible Individuals), not ticket-resolvers
  • Grow engineers into independent, high-impact contributors and tech leads
  • Work closely with monetization, UA, data, and RnD departments to ensure portfolio decisions are grounded in full eProfit context
  • Enable fast hypothesis testing and iteration cycles within product teams
  • Partner with product and data teams to build scalable systems for experimentation, analytics, and performance tracking
  • Coordinate RnD department to internal team handover process and maintain hit-readiness and de-handover criteria

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including senior leadership roles in mobile gaming or mobile product environments
  • Genuine hands-on in both product and engineering — writing PRDs and code
  • Strong expertise in Unity (C#) and mobile game architecture; solid understanding of scalable backend systems and client-server architecture
  • AI-native with concrete production examples of AI tools accelerating output
  • Leadership by proximity — leading small, high-performance teams by working alongside them
  • Data-driven mindset with experience in experimentation cycles, A/B testing, and metric-driven decision-making
  • Founded or co-founded a mobile gaming studio (strong signal)
  • Scaled an ad-monetized casual game from early traction to meaningful portfolio revenue (strong signal)
  • Built internal tooling, automation pipelines, or SDK integrations alongside product work (strong signal)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release processes (Unity Cloud Build, GitHub Actions) (strong signal)
  • Familiarity with analytics tools: Firebase, GameAnalytics, Amplitude (strong signal)
  • Experience with mobile game monetization systems (ads, IAP) (strong signal)
