Full job description

Verve is hiring a Backend Engineering Manager in Dublin to lead a core engineering team responsible for developing and scaling the company's ad exchange and ad server functionality. The role requires 7+ years of software engineering experience with system-level languages (mainly Java and Go), 3+ years managing engineering teams, and experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS), CI/CD pipelines, containerization, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring tools, and AI-assisted development tools. Responsibilities include mentoring engineers, leading agile operations, participating in hiring, contributing to engineering initiatives, maintaining system architecture, overseeing deployments, troubleshooting production issues, and promoting modern development practices. What you'll do

  • Mentor, grow, and develop direct reports and help them chart their career paths
  • Lead agile team operations to ensure consistent, high-quality, and on-time software deliveries
  • Drive team growth by participating in hiring, interviewing, and performance reviews
  • Contribute to department-wide engineering initiatives to optimize processes
  • Maintain deep understanding of systems and architecture
  • Create new product increments, oversee deployments, and monitor system health
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues
  • Leverage and champion modern development practices including agentic-assisted coding workflows

Requirements

  • 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with system-level languages
  • 3+ years of direct experience managing, leading, and growing a team of engineers
  • Proven experience working with Cloud Computing platforms (GCP, AWS)
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD)
  • Experience with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Solid understanding and practical knowledge of agentic-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform)
  • Experience with monitoring/alerting systems (Grafana, ELK)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related scientific field
