Full job description

Basis Technologies is seeking a mid-level AI Engineer based in Budapest to build and scale the intelligence layer of their AI-native platform. The role involves implementing and optimizing LLM orchestration pipelines, building modular prompt architecture, knowledge graph infrastructure, RAG pipelines, and multi-agent AI systems. The engineer will develop evaluation frameworks, conduct model evaluation and selection, and contribute to AI governance and compliance with ISO 42001 and EU AI Act. Collaboration with Engineering and Architecture teams in Budapest and Bracknell is required. Essential skills include experience with production LLM systems, prompt engineering, RAG systems, graph and vector databases, Python, REST APIs, and CI/CD pipelines. The role is full-time and on-site in Budapest. What you'll do

  • Implement and optimise LLM orchestration pipelines across platform's core capabilities
  • Build and maintain modular prompt architecture
  • Build knowledge graph infrastructure using graph and vector databases for domain knowledge representation and semantic retrieval
  • Build RAG pipelines using federated retrieval across multiple knowledge sources
  • Develop and operate centralised evaluation framework across all AI capabilities
  • Implement multi-agent systems to power agentic AI capabilities
  • Conduct model evaluation and selection
  • Contribute to AI governance and compliance, supporting ISO 42001 and EU AI Act readiness
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and Architecture teams across Budapest and Bracknell

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in AI engineering, building production LLM systems
  • Strong expertise in prompt engineering, context engineering and structured prompt architectures
  • Production experience with RAG systems
  • Experience with graph databases and vector databases for knowledge representation and semantic retrieval
  • Experience building evaluation frameworks for AI systems
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals: Python, REST APIs, CI/CD pipelines
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving scale-up environment
