Full job description
Zeta Global is hiring multiple Staff Engineers for a remote US-based role supporting the engineering teams behind Sailthru, LiveIntent, and WhatCounts platforms. This is a senior, hands-on technical individual contributor role focused on building and operating large-scale, high-performance marketing platforms. Responsibilities include technical leadership, architectural decision-making, hands-on coding and debugging, incident management, and cross-team collaboration. Candidates must have deep expertise in AWS, cloud-native architecture, JVM languages (Java/Kotlin), Kubernetes, distributed systems, large-scale databases, and practical AI/ML engineering experience. Fluency with AI-driven development tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Codex is required. Experience with PHP or Python, messaging infrastructure, email/marketing tech, and Databricks is a plus. The role offers unlimited PTO, excellent medical/dental/vision coverage, equity, stock purchase plans, and other benefits. Salary range is $160,000 to $180,000 depending on location and experience.
What you'll do
- Identify systemic engineering challenges and drive resolution
- Shape technical backlog and near-term architecture
- Propose and validate technical approaches for scale, performance, security, or cross-team dependencies
- Lead architectural decisions for complex or high-risk initiatives
- Incorporate modern industry patterns including AI/ML tooling into technical strategy
- Write code, review PRs, debug production issues, and optimize system performance
- Dive deep into AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes workloads, and JVM-based services to fix issues
- Participate in on-call rotation as second-level escalation for complex incidents
- Help triage, coordinate, and resolve large incidents and conduct post-incident reviews
- Champion operational excellence: observability, reliability, deployment practices, and operational habits
- Partner with engineering teams as technical point of contact on complex projects
- Work with Engineering Managers to align technical work with team and product priorities
- Mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and feedback
- Stay close to the customer and incorporate user context into technical decisions
- Partner closely with product team to shape what gets built
Requirements
- Deep expertise in AWS and cloud-native architecture
- Strong JVM fundamentals, primarily Java and Kotlin
- Hands-on Kubernetes experience
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems
- Comfort working with large databases at scale
- Practical experience with AI/ML engineering
- Track record of delivering large, complex initiatives
- Strong debugging instincts and root-cause analysis
- Good judgment balancing right solution and pragmatism
- Fluency with AI-driven development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or similar)
- Comfort operating without a playbook and navigating uncertainty
- Comfort working in and around legacy codebases
- Ability to quickly map existing architecture and propose improvements
- Think big and envision better outcomes
- Bias for action and ability to move with imperfect information
- Experience with PHP or Python is a plus
- Familiarity with high-volume messaging infrastructure or email/marketing tech is welcome but not required
- Knowledge of Databricks platform and data engineering practices is a bonus
