Full job description

Staff Java Engineer role at Magnite working on the DV+ Platform Team. Responsibilities include leading software projects from inception to deployment, designing scalable microservices for customer-facing and internal APIs, collaborating with business stakeholders, and optimizing code performance. Requires 6+ years of production Java experience, expertise in microservices, RESTful APIs with Spring Boot and Docker, AWS cloud services, relational and NoSQL databases, messaging systems like RabbitMQ or Kafka, and modern CI/CD tools. Familiarity with JavaScript and React is a plus. Experience with AI-assisted development tools is an asset. The role offers a hybrid schedule with remote work on Monday and Friday and in-office Tuesday through Thursday in Los Angeles or Broomfield. Salary ranges from $170,000 to $180,000 in California and $155,000 to $165,000 in Colorado, plus bonuses, equity, and comprehensive benefits.

What you'll do

  • Lead development and implementation of software projects from inception to deployment
  • Design and implement reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions to challenging problems
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to deliver appropriate results
  • Lead technical specification, development, integration, testing, and release of software components
  • Identify and address technical challenges, optimize code for performance, and participate in ongoing code refactoring

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 6+ years of production coding experience, preferably in server-side Java
  • Expertise in service-oriented architectures, microservices, advanced database schemas, relational and nonrelational databases, and highly scalable/available web services
  • Hands-on experience building RESTful Web Services using Spring Boot and Docker
  • Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and services (e.g., EC2, ECS, or cloud deployment workflows)
  • Strong database proficiency including SQL, Hibernate, MySQL, Oracle, Postgres, Redis, MongoDB, DynamoDB
  • Experience with messaging systems such as RabbitMQ or Kafka
  • Proficiency with modern CI/CD and development tools including Maven, Git, Jenkins, Puppet, and Jira
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks (TDD, Mocking, Unit/Functional/Integration)
  • Familiarity with JavaScript and React component libraries (Ant Design, Material UI, React Bootstrap) is a plus
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools and integrating advanced AI workflows or Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an asset
  • Strong ability to context-shift and manage multiple competing priorities
  • Bonus: experience managing direct reports or leading teams
