Full job description

The Sr. Director, Legal supports commercial operations by drafting, negotiating, and advising on complex agreements across Sales, Business Development, Finance, and Marketing. Provides strategic guidance on privacy, compliance, and operational matters in an advertising technology environment. Responsibilities include drafting and negotiating commercial agreements related to digital advertising, advising on transaction structuring and compliance, leading contracting policies, drafting marketing materials, and supporting legal activities such as litigation, M&A, employment, and IP management. Requires 10+ years legal experience, preferably in-house and in adtech/media, experience with Fortune 500 negotiations, strong executive advising skills, data privacy knowledge, and a J.D. from a top ABA-accredited law school with active bar membership. Benefits include fully paid health insurance, paid parental leave, and unlimited PTO. Salary range is $230,000 - $250,000 per year. Role is full-time and hybrid with locations in Chicago, Irvine, Los Angeles, and New York.

What you'll do

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements related to digital advertising including MSAs, data protection agreements, data licenses, advertising supply agreements, insertion orders, SaaS agreements, and professional services contracts
  • Advise on structuring transactions, contract and privacy compliance, and commercial and operational issues
  • Lead creation and implementation of commercial contracting policies and compliance practices
  • Draft and review marketing materials including press releases, white papers, blogs, and video scripts
  • Support other legal department activities such as litigation, M&A, employment, and IP portfolio management as needed

Requirements

  • 10+ years of legal experience, including substantial experience working in an in-house legal department
  • Experience in adtech, media, or advertising legal matters
  • Experience negotiating agreements with Fortune 500 media companies and brands
  • Ability to advise senior-level executives and build strong business relationships
  • Solid understanding of data privacy in an adtech context
  • Working knowledge of litigation, trademark/patent, employment, and other areas of law
  • Ability to provide practical, solution-oriented counsel in a fast-paced environment
  • Good business judgment and excellent communication and writing skills
  • Ability to independently handle matters outside areas of expertise
  • Experience building and improving legal processes and operations, including use of AI and technology tools
  • J.D. from a top-ranked ABA-accredited law school and active bar membership
