Full job description

Liftoff is seeking a senior Software Engineer for the Machine Learning Data Platform team. The role involves designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient systems to support data lake infrastructure, dataset generation, model training, analytics, reporting, and monitoring. The engineer will work with ML, software, and infrastructure teams to enable next-generation ML models using technologies such as Python, Golang, AWS, Weight & Biases, PyTorch, PySpark, Trino, Hive, Iceberg, and Clickhouse. Candidates must have 6+ years of experience, strong coding skills in Python and Golang, solid CS fundamentals, and preferably experience with Spark and ML tooling/platforms for large-scale problems. The position is full-time, hybrid (2 days/week in Bay Area offices), with a salary range of $180,000 to $230,000 and includes equity and benefits.

What you'll do

  • Work with ML, Software, and Infrastructure Engineers to build the ML platform
  • Design, engineer, and implement reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient systems for data lake infrastructure, dataset generation, model training infrastructure, analytics, reporting, and monitoring
  • Enable next generation ML models and technologies
  • Utilize vendor-based products (AWS, Weight & Biases), open-source technologies (PyTorch, PySpark, Trino, Hive, Iceberg, Clickhouse), and in-house tooling

Requirements

  • Very strong coding ability in Python and Golang
  • Strong core CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, architecting systems)
  • 6+ years of industry experience
  • Experience with Spark is a plus
  • Experience working in a high-growth startup atmosphere is a plus
  • Experience building Machine Learning tooling or platforms, especially for large-scale problems, is a big plus
  • A passion for quality and excellence, with the ability to balance shipping deadlines
