Full job description

Smadex is an ad-tech company processing 4.5 million ad requests per second with sub-100ms response times. They seek a Software Engineer for their Platform Experience team to build internal tools, integrations, workflows, and business solutions for various company teams. The role focuses on improving company efficiency through maintainable solutions rather than external product engineering. Responsibilities include building internal tools, designing integrations, working with stakeholders, translating business needs into technical plans, evaluating build vs buy options, automating manual processes, delivering end-to-end solutions, defining intake and ownership practices, ensuring maintainability and security, and aligning with engineering standards. Requirements include 1+ years software engineering experience, strong full-stack skills, API and workflow experience, good judgment on tooling choices, comfort with ambiguous requirements, strong communication, pragmatic mindset, business process understanding, and ownership mentality. Nice to have experience includes internal tools, CMS platforms, document workflows, automation platforms, Angular, Node.js, Python, SQL, REST APIs, low-code/no-code options, and cloud deployments. Benefits include a motivated team, complex environment experience, impactful projects, competitive compensation, central Barcelona office with amenities, hybrid work with 2 days remote, flexible hours, professional development, meal vouchers, gym allowance, social events, and recreational facilities. No visa sponsorship; candidates must have legal work permit in Spain.

What you'll do

  • Build internal tools, workflows, and lightweight applications for engineering and non-engineering teams
  • Design and implement integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms
  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand processes, pain points, and business needs
  • Translate ideas and suggestions into clear technical plans and pragmatic solutions
  • Evaluate build-vs-buy tradeoffs and recommend the simplest viable approach
  • Improve or automate manual processes involving spreadsheets, approvals, documents, CMSs, email flows, and internal operations
  • Deliver end-to-end solutions across frontend, backend, integrations, and data flows when needed
  • Help define lightweight intake, scoping, and ownership practices for internal requests
  • Ensure solutions are maintainable, secure, and appropriately documented
  • Partner with the broader engineering group to align on technical standards and shared capabilities

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience as a Software engineer
  • Strong full-stack skills and the ability to build end-to-end solutions with limited supervision
  • Experience working with APIs, integrations, and business workflows
  • Good judgment when deciding between custom development, SaaS, automation tooling, or simple manual solutions
  • Comfort working in ambiguous environments where requirements are not fully defined upfront
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A pragmatic mindset: able to deliver useful solutions without overengineering
  • Ability to understand business processes and identify where technology can genuinely improve efficiency
  • Ownership mentality: able to move initiatives forward, identify blockers, and make progress without constant direction
