Full job description

Lead FinOps engineer role on Internal Measurement team to establish and lead a formal FinOps practice. Responsibilities include designing, building, and implementing a cloud cost management framework covering cost optimization, attribution, forecasting, and governance. Manage cloud costs across AWS and GCP, attributing spend to products and business initiatives. Develop tools and dashboards for stakeholders, analyze cloud cost drivers, build forecasting and anomaly detection models, and manage AWS Savings Plans or GCP Committed-Use Discounts. Requirements include extensive experience with AWS or GCP cost and billing systems, knowledge of FinOps principles, coding skills (Python preferred), proficiency in SQL, and desirable experience with Terraform, Kubernetes (EKS, GKE), Databricks, and Snowflake. What you'll do

  • Develop, communicate, and drive cloud cost initiatives across the organization
  • Create tools and dashboards for Product, Engineering, and Finance stakeholders to provide visibility and actionable insights into cloud spend
  • Identify and analyze key drivers of cloud costs and report findings to budget owners
  • Build and maintain models for cloud cost forecasting, spend anomaly detection, and cost attribution
  • Manage employment of AWS Savings Plans or GCP Committed-Use Discounts

Requirements

  • Extensive experience navigating the cost and billing systems of AWS or GCP
  • Proven track record of diving into CURs or GCP Billing Reports to drive resource optimization and financial accountability
  • Knowledgeable in FinOps principles and able to put them into practice
  • Ability to write code and develop internal tools and automation for cloud resource management
  • Proficient in SQL for analyzing cost/usage reports and activity logs
  • Experience with Terraform and cloud-based Kubernetes (EKS, GKE) is desirable
  • Familiarity with cost aspects of Databricks and Snowflake is desirable
