Full job description

FreeWheel, a Comcast company, is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Buyercloud Ad Serving team. The role involves designing and building data-driven features, scaling distributed applications, optimizing algorithms and architectures to reduce cloud costs, supporting observability systems, participating in on-call rotations, and writing documentation. Candidates should have a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field, 3+ years of software engineering experience, strong knowledge of building scalable systems, performance optimization, software architecture, and experience with compiled languages such as C++, Java, Rust, and Go in a Linux environment. Effective communication and ability to work with remote teams across time zones is required. The position is full-time and located in Reston, Virginia.

What you'll do

  • Design and build data-driven and model-driven features for marketing campaigns
  • Scale distributed application and infrastructure
  • Optimize algorithms and software architectures to reduce cloud hosting costs
  • Support and extend observability stack for issue detection and alerting
  • Participate in on-call rotations and handle service incident escalations
  • Write systems documentation, playbooks, and instructional manuals
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in significant matters
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance including nights and weekends as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of software engineering experience
  • Deep understanding of building systems at scale
  • Experience with optimizing performance, scaling and data modeling
  • Strong grasp of software architecture
  • Significant experience with compiled languages such as C++, Java, Rust, and Go
  • Experience working in a Linux ecosystem
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work with team members in multiple remote locations and time zones
