Full job description

FreeWheel, a Comcast company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Buyercloud Ad Serving team. The role involves designing and building data-driven features, scaling distributed applications, optimizing algorithms to reduce cloud costs, supporting observability, participating in on-call rotations, and writing documentation. Candidates must have a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field, five years of software engineering experience, strong knowledge of building scalable systems, software architecture, and experience with compiled languages (C++, Java, Rust, Go) and Linux. The position requires effective communication, problem-solving, and ability to work with remote teams across time zones. Salary range is $109,759.26 to $164,638.89. The job is full-time and remote, based in Chicago, Illinois.

What you'll do

  • Design and build data-driven and model-driven features for marketing campaigns
  • Scale distributed application and infrastructure
  • Optimize algorithms and software architectures to reduce cloud hosting costs
  • Support and extend observability stack for issue detection and alerts
  • Participate in on-call rotations and serve as escalation contact for incidents
  • Write systems documentation, playbooks, and instructional manuals
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in significant matters
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance
  • Work nights and weekends as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Five years of software engineering experience
  • A deep understanding of what it means to build systems at scale
  • Experience with optimizing performance, scaling and data modeling
  • A strong grasp of software architecture
  • Significant experience with compiled languages, such as C++, Java, Rust, and Go
  • Experience working in a Linux ecosystem
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to set priorities and track work transparently
  • Analytical skills to use data to inform decisions
  • Creativity to improve operations and create new opportunities
  • Problem-solving skills to assess and resolve issues
  • Ability to work with team members in multiple remote locations and time zones
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and work nights/weekends as necessary
