Full job description

Sovrn seeks a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to lead design and evolution of complex, scalable distributed systems. The role involves architectural strategy, technical leadership, mentoring, and ensuring software security, performance, and compliance with SOC, ISO, and GDPR standards. Candidates should have expertise in scalable architecture, automation (Terraform, CloudFormation), scripting (Python, Bash, Go), and strong communication skills. Responsibilities include defining best practices, leveraging AI and automation, establishing standards, mentoring engineers, and aligning technical strategy with business goals. The position is full-time, hybrid, based in Boulder, Colorado. Salary ranges from $155,000 to $200,000 depending on level, with bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits.

What you'll do

  • Lead design and architecture of scalable distributed systems integrating multiple components and services
  • Define best practices for system design, testability, documentation, and accessibility
  • Leverage AI and automation to deliver secure, extensible, and efficient solutions
  • Establish and maintain SLOs/SLAs, coding and documentation standards, and architectural guidelines
  • Mentor engineers at all levels to build organizational capability in system thinking and architectural decision-making
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Cloud Engineering to align technical strategy with business goals

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in scalable architecture with experience designing and evolving distributed, multi-service systems
  • Strong focus on performance, security, and compliance, including SOC, ISO, and GDPR standards
  • Advanced proficiency in automation and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and scripting (Python, Bash, or Go)
  • Strategic systems thinking with ability to anticipate future challenges and architect adaptable solutions
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills to align executives, engineers, and cross-functional teams
  • Proven mentorship experience building technical acumen and shaping team culture
