Full job description

This role is central to Smartly’s data platform powering reporting systems for major global brands. The Bobby Tables team handles ingestion, transformation, and serving of tens of billions of data points across advertising channels. Responsibilities include designing and optimizing systems for complex queries over massive datasets with low latency, ensuring reliability and consistency across evolving ad channels and integrations. Technologies used include Ruby, TypeScript, Kafka, PostgreSQL/Citus, Clickhouse, and Redis. The role requires strong experience with data-intensive, high-scale systems, OLAP workloads, relational databases, and system design for varying data structures. What you'll do

  • Design and build systems that support high-scale reporting and analytics workloads
  • Improve OLAP performance and optimize data access patterns across large datasets
  • Develop solutions that unify data from multiple external ad channels with varying structures
  • Own projects from definition through delivery, ensuring high quality and reliability
  • Work with technologies such as Ruby, TypeScript, Kafka, and modern data storage systems (PostgreSQL/Citus, Clickhouse, Redis)
  • Mentor engineers and support the team in maintaining a high engineering standard

Requirements

  • Strong experience building and operating data-intensive and high-scale systems
  • Experience working with OLAP workloads and query performance optimization
  • Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MS SQL, MySQL
  • Experience with ClickHouse or other columnar databases is a plus
  • Ability to design systems that handle varying data structures and integrations
  • Comfortable working across the stack when needed
  • Ability to take ownership of complex problems and drive them to practical solutions
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with others
