MNTN is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Creative Delivery Services team responsible for ad delivery infrastructure. The role involves designing, building, and operating high-throughput backend services in Java/Kotlin, owning systems end-to-end including APIs, ingestion, transformation, caching, and delivery. Candidates should have 5+ years experience building production-grade backend systems in Java, Kotlin, or Scala, strong SQL skills, experience with distributed systems, RESTful APIs, microservices, Kafka, and asynchronous processing. Familiarity with Rust, Terraform, and AI-assisted development tools is a plus. Responsibilities include improving system performance, resiliency, and scalability, collaborating with product teams, and contributing to architectural decisions. The position is full-time and remote, based in the United States.

What you'll do

Design, build, and operate high-throughput Java/Kotlin services powering ad server and creative delivery pipelines
Own systems end-to-end from API design and ingestion flows to transformation, caching, and global delivery
Work across stack including Rust services, Kafka streams, Terraform, relational databases
Improve performance, observability, and resiliency of critical production systems at scale
Partner with Product and Project leads to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions
Contribute to architectural decisions shaping the creative platform
Raise engineering bar through code reviews, design discussions, and best practices

Requirements

5+ years building production-grade backend systems in Java, Kotlin, or Scala
Product mindset
Experience designing and operating high-scale, distributed systems
Strong SQL fundamentals including schema design, indexing strategies, query optimization, and performance tuning
Comfort working across multiple technologies and services, even outside primary language
Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
Familiarity with messaging systems (e.g., Kafka) and asynchronous processing patterns
Practical use of AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, ChatGPT, LLM copilots)
