Full job description

Verve is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer (contract, remote) to join the DevOps team. Responsibilities include managing Kubernetes clusters (GKE), designing infrastructure provisioning with Terraform, improving CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD), maintaining Helm charts, ensuring platform reliability and disaster recovery, defining observability standards, leading incident resolution, mentoring engineers, and participating in on-call rotation. Required skills: 7+ years in platform/infrastructure/DevOps engineering, Kubernetes expertise, Terraform module authoring, GitOps and CI/CD pipeline design, cloud networking and security knowledge (GCP), ability to work independently, and mentoring experience. Technologies used include Ruby/Rails, Elixir, Python, JavaScript frameworks, AWS (EKS, ECS, RDS), GCP (GKE, BigQuery, Dataflow). Hourly rate $40-$75. Must collaborate with US-based team during business hours.

What you'll do

  • Own and optimize Kubernetes clusters (GKE) at scale, including networking, autoscaling, and cost efficiency
  • Lead the design and implementation of infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), establishing reusable patterns and enforcing standards across teams
  • Architect, implement, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD) with a focus on reliability, security, and developer experience
  • Design and maintain Helm charts for applications and services across multiple environments
  • Drive platform reliability — owning scalability, availability, and disaster recovery strategy (load balancing, auto-scaling, multi-region resilience)
  • Define and implement observability standards across metrics, logging, and tracing (Grafana, New Relic, OpenTelemetry)
  • Serve as a technical lead during incidents on primary revenue-generating applications, owning resolution and contributing to post-mortems
  • Mentor engineers across the team and act as a trusted advisor to development teams on infrastructure best practices, security standards, and platform adoption
  • Contribute to the team’s on-call rotation with a proactive, systems-thinking approach

Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering experience
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Kubernetes in production environments (GKE)
  • Strong Terraform skills — module authoring and IaC architecture
  • Experience with GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipeline design at scale
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking, IAM, and security across GCP
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex, ambiguous problems
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing platform culture
  • Willingness to collaborate with US-based engineering team during business hours
