Full job description

GumGum is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to build and own a next-generation AI-powered software development platform focused on spec-driven development. The role requires evaluating existing AI SDLC frameworks, architecting and building the platform end-to-end, integrating with CI/CD and infrastructure, and collaborating with DevOps, Machine Learning Engineering, and Security teams. Candidates should have 5+ years of platform engineering experience, strong knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, and Python, and a proven track record of building widely adopted internal tools. The position offers a hybrid work environment with a preference for candidates within a commutable distance to the Santa Monica office. Compensation ranges from $186,000 to $215,000 annually, with benefits including a 401(k) plan and potential bonuses or stock incentives.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate AI SDLC / spec-driven development frameworks and decide on adoption or building own platform
  • Architect the platform end-to-end including spec authoring, agent orchestration, and validation gates
  • Build tooling and services to make spec-driven development the default workflow
  • Instrument platform to track adoption, delivery velocity, and friction
  • Design for self-service spec authoring and iteration by product managers and non-engineers
  • Partner with DevOps to integrate platform with CI/CD, Kubernetes, and deployment infrastructure
  • Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineering on model selection, context design, and agent guardrails
  • Work with Security Engineering on authentication and auditability
  • Drive org-wide adoption with documentation, training, and metrics tracking

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 5+ years in platform engineering, developer experience, or a closely related discipline
  • Direct, hands-on experience building or driving org-wide adoption of a development platform
  • Working knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, and Python
  • Track record of building internal tools and platforms that teams actually adopted
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong, opinionated judgment about where AI speeds up delivery
  • Product mindset and ability to drive buy-in across DevOps, MLE, Security, and Engineering leadership
