Samba seeks a Senior Director to lead and transform its data platform and cloud services architecture. The role requires defining and executing a transformative vision for a scalable data platform handling billions of daily events. Responsibilities include partnering with CTO and engineering leadership, driving adoption of vector databases and ML analytics, building fault-tolerant multi-region architectures, embedding-based systems, and infrastructure for vector storage and retrieval. The role demands championing data governance and compliance (GDPR, CCPA), evaluating emerging technologies, designing ML/AI infrastructure, enabling self-service ML capabilities, establishing MLOps practices, building and mentoring a team of platform and ML engineers, fostering innovation, establishing career paths, driving cross-functional collaboration, setting SLAs and monitoring, providing observability tools, managing vendor relationships, and driving automation. Requirements include 12+ years in data platform/infrastructure roles with 5+ years in senior leadership, experience with embedding systems and vector databases, scaling teams of 20+ engineers, expertise in modern data architectures, proficiency with Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Airflow, Kubernetes, Terraform, MLflow, Kubeflow, SageMaker, strong communication and strategic thinking skills, business acumen, knowledge of privacy-preserving analytics, open-source contributions, and an advanced degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field.
