Full job description

Tatari is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and own large-scale ETL data pipelines for reporting and measurement products. Responsibilities include managing data products from requirements through implementation and production rollout, collaborating with data science, engineering, and product teams. Required skills include 5+ years of experience with ETL pipelines, strong Python and SQL programming, expertise in Spark/PySpark, experience with Airflow, data modeling for analytics, data quality validation, debugging distributed data systems, and strong communication skills. Bonus for experience with OLAP stores like ClickHouse. The role is full-time, hybrid (2 days in office), based in San Francisco, CA. Compensation ranges from $170,000 to $200,000 annually with equity and benefits including health insurance, 401K, education stipend, unlimited PTO, and more.

What you'll do

  • Design, build and own large-scale data pipelines that turn high-volume raw data into curated, production-grade datasets
  • Take data products from requirements through tech spec, implementation, validation and production rollout
  • Partner closely with data science on methodology
  • Collaborate with backend and frontend engineers on serving layers
  • Work with product team on requirements

Requirements

  • 5+ years of dedicated experience designing, building and operating production ETL pipelines at scale
  • Strong programming skills in Python (or a similar language) and SQL
  • Deep hands-on experience with Spark/PySpark
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow, including DAG design, backfills and failure recovery
  • Strong data modeling skills for analytics - curated/gold-layer datasets, schema design, partitioning and data contracts consumed by downstream services
  • Ongoing interest in agentic developer workflows: testing agent harnesses, building them, agent loop engineering, and similar emerging paradigms
  • A rigorous approach to data quality: validation, reconciliation and methodology comparison as part of shipping any dataset
  • Experience debugging distributed data systems - performance tuning, memory issues, and optimizations
  • Strong written communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, from tech specs to incident writeups
  • Bonus points if you have experience with OLAP stores (e.g., ClickHouse)
