Full job description
Sovrn is hiring a Senior Cloud Engineer to design and lead large-scale AWS cloud architectures, manage Databricks lakehouse platforms, and drive Infrastructure as Code adoption using Terraform. The role includes ownership of observability systems, implementation of AIOps for anomaly detection, and serving as an escalation point for complex incidents. Responsibilities also include cross-team project leadership, architectural documentation, and mentoring engineers. Candidates should have deep AWS expertise, experience with data lakehouse platforms, strong Terraform skills, knowledge of cloud security and networking, and strong communication abilities. AWS certifications are a plus. The position is full-time, hybrid with in-office work for candidates within 20 miles of Boulder, Colorado. Salary ranges from $130,000 to $160,000 annually plus bonus, equity, and benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, parental leave, 401(k) with match, paid holidays, flexible vacation, and commuter benefits.
What you'll do
- Design large-scale, enterprise-level AWS cloud architectures that are secure, scalable, and cost-effective
- Manage, optimize, and scale a Databricks lakehouse layer to maximize performance and enforce governance frameworks
- Lead Infrastructure as Code adoption across teams, develop Terraform modules, implement policy-as-code, and architect CI/CD pipelines
- Own observability for services including monitoring, metrics, and alerting strategies
- Implement AIOps solutions for automated anomaly detection and define standards for responsible AI use
- Serve as an on-call escalation point for complex, cross-team incidents
- Lead delivery of projects with multiple dependencies and coordinate cross-team initiatives
- Create architectural documentation, contribute to technology roadmap, and mentor junior engineers
- Stay current with emerging technologies and share knowledge through tech talks and mentorship
Requirements
- Deep proficiency in AWS cloud services (VPC, EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch)
- Experience designing and owning secure, scalable, production-ready architectures using cloud-native design principles
- Familiarity with architecture and administration of Peta-scale data lakehouse platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake
- Extensive hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), including reusable modules and policy-as-code
- Knowledge of cloud networking, security best practices, and Identity and Access Management
- Experience designing observability systems (metrics, logs, alerting) and applying data-driven incident management
- Experience designing AI agent skills and championing AI integration into production environments
- Strong communication skills to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences and produce architectural documentation
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect – Professional or DevOps Engineer) are a strong plus
