Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby, Typescript)

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services in Ruby (Roda) within a large-scale distributed microservice architecture
• Contribute to backend-focused TypeScript/Node.js work including API design and tRPC procedures for Next.js applications
• Own service reliability including instrumentation, monitoring, and observability (tracing, metrics, structured logging)
• Collaborate with data engineers on data pipelines, ETL processes, and data flow modeling
• Investigate and resolve production incidents; follow oncall and runbook practices
• Design and evolve APIs with focus on authentication, authorization, and security best practices
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing to ensure maintainable code
• Write thorough unit and integration tests for backend services
• Work independently and communicate clearly across a distributed, cross-functional team

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
• 5+ years professional Ruby backend development experience
• Experience with distributed systems / microservice architecture
• Knowledge of observability tooling including setting up tracing, metrics, and alerting
• Experience with error tracking/monitoring tools such as Sentry or Honeybadger
• Hands-on experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and Next.js backend/API work
• Experience with tRPC or comparable typed API frameworks
• Solid experience with AWS core services and infrastructure-as-code with AWS CDK
• Experience with containerized applications using Docker
• Experience designing and evolving secure APIs with authentication and authorization
• Experience working in large distributed systems with multiple services and languages
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins and/or GitHub Actions
• Ability to use AI coding tools effectively
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
• Ability to work 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM EEST and communicate with U.S.-based teams
• Location in Ukraine (Kyiv or Lviv) is mandatory
