Full job description

Microsoft Research offers a 12-week full-time internship for PhD students in computational social science. Interns will work on AI-augmented human cognition, decision-making, economics of agentic markets, and other computational social science topics. Candidates must have at least 2 years experience in data analysis with R or Python, and 1 year designing and analyzing online experiments. Interns must be on-site at Microsoft’s New York location. Responsibilities include collaborating with researchers, presenting findings, and contributing to research projects. Applicants must submit a cover letter detailing their data analytic and web development toolsets, experience with generative AI, and links to code repositories and publications, plus two reference letters. Salary ranges from $6,710 to $13,270 per month, higher in SF Bay Area and NYC metro. Benefits vary by role and location.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in a field related to computational social science
  • At least 2 years of experience with data analysis in languages such as R or Python
  • At least 1 year of experience designing, building, and analyzing online experiments
  • Physically located in Microsoft worksite location for the duration of internship
  • Submit a minimum of two reference letters
  • Submit a cover letter explicitly stating data analytic toolset, web development toolset, experience with generative AI tools, links to code repositories and research website/publications
