The Payroll Specialist role at GumGum is responsible for end-to-end payroll processing for multi-state domestic and international entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality. Key duties include processing semi-monthly and monthly payrolls, manual and off-cycle checks, payroll tax filings, compliance reporting, garnishments, 401K administration, and payroll audits. The role requires collaboration with People Operations, Accounting, and Finance teams, serving as the main contact for payroll inquiries, and improving payroll processes. Candidates should have 5+ years payroll experience, knowledge of payroll tax laws, proficiency with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRIS platforms, and strong Excel skills. The position offers a hybrid work environment within commutable distance to Santa Monica, CA, with a salary range of $65,000 to $80,500 annually plus benefits including a 401(k) plan and potential bonuses.
What you'll do
- Process accurate and timely semi-monthly and monthly payrolls for multi-state domestic and international entities
- Process manual checks including final checks and off-cycle payrolls as needed
- Process and balance payrolls, ensuring all compliance reports are prepared and fully reconciled
- Manage garnishments, 401K administration, and generate standard and ad hoc reports
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll, tax, and labor regulations
- Manage payroll tax filings, payments, W-2s, and other required reporting
- Serve as escalation point for complex payroll inquiries and issue resolution
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and system efficiency
- Work with Accounting on monthly payroll and auditing of payrolls
- Support internal and external payroll audits and compliance reviews
- Provide internal and external communication to communicate clear deadlines to vendors and internal teams
- Maintain relationship and partner closely with People Operations team to ensure accurate pay structure
- Work cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure timely payroll processing
- Serve as main point of contact for employee payroll and 401K questions and inquiries
- Handle additional payroll related activities for quarterly and end of year reporting
- Perform other duties, projects and ad hoc requests as assigned
Requirements
- BA degree preferred but not required; relevant certifications may be substituted
- Minimum of 5+ years of previous payroll experience in a fast-paced multi-state environment
- Previous experience with ADP Workforce Now or other HRIS Platforms
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws and wage and hour regulations
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
- Collaboration across HR, Accounting & Finance partners
