Full job description

FreeWheel, a Comcast company, seeks a Senior Software Engineer Manager to lead an engineering team designing, building, and supporting a video advertising platform. The role involves managing 5-8 engineers, overseeing the software development lifecycle, collaborating with stakeholders, and providing technical leadership. Required skills include C/C++, database design, network programming, distributed systems, and experience with large system software design. Knowledge of Golang, Agentic AI in SDLC, and advertising industry experience are pluses. The candidate must have 5-7 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or higher. Responsibilities include software design review, application support, documentation, training, and innovation partnership with global teams. The position is on-site in Chicago, Illinois. Salary range is $137,369.30 to $206,053.95, with additional benefits including bonuses and comprehensive employee support.

What you'll do

  • Manage an Engineering team and collaborate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements
  • Conduct analysis to determine integration needs
  • Review design of new software and web applications
  • Support applications under development and customize current applications
  • Assist with software update process and roll-outs of software releases
  • Train representatives and operations staff on internally developed software applications
  • Research, write and edit documentation and technical requirements
  • Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products
  • Provide technical leadership throughout design process and guidance on practices and techniques
  • Display in-depth knowledge of engineering methodologies and application
  • Apply process design and redesign skills and defend architectural and technical choices
  • Lead software development lifecycle including design, prototyping, implementation, testing, maintenance, and support
  • Produce technical specifications and determine operational feasibility
  • Review code and related documents for quality
  • Support overall business and technically solve issues
  • Partner with global engineering, product, and operations teams to incorporate innovations

Requirements

  • Experience with C/C++, DB design, and network programming
  • Experience with large system software design and development
  • Experience with distributed systems and mission-critical systems
  • Experience managing 5-8 Engineers
  • Experience with Golang is a plus
  • Experience with Agentic AI in SDLC is a plus
  • Advertising industry experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated expertise in problem-solving and technical innovation
  • Strong passion for learning/practicing new techniques
  • Knowledgeable about SDLC, Agile, and Software Engineering Methodology
  • Team working skills and good communication skills
  • Willingness to work under pressure
  • Ability and persistence in technical support
  • Ability to work closely with global teams and accept additional working hours
  • Bachelor's Degree or above
  • 5-7 years relevant work experience
