Lead AI Consultant role at Merkle, a dentsu company, based in Lisbon. The role involves embedded client-facing AI consulting from early strategic discussions through delivery, leading internal AI literacy enablement programs, and shaping AI transformation strategies tailored to client needs. Responsibilities include advising on AI architecture and implementation, facilitating workshops, developing future AI scenarios, leading workforce transformation, contributing to AI solution architecture, evaluating new AI tools, and building ecosystems with startups and research groups. Requirements include a degree in a technical discipline with an engineering foundation, several years of AI consulting or software engineering experience with client delivery accountability, fluency in English, strategic foresight, AI-first mindset, practical daily use of generative AI tools, strong communication and empathy, self-directed prioritization, and a strong learning drive. Preferred experience includes consulting, technical advisory, agent orchestration frameworks, LLM integration, AI-native product development, workshop facilitation, and familiarity with global professional services. What you'll do
- Act as primary consultant on AI engagements advising senior client stakeholders on AI transformation strategy, architecture, and implementation
- Develop AI strategies, solution concepts, and technical specifications tailored to client organisational realities
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and vice versa
- Facilitate client workshops from AI discovery through implementation planning
- Contribute to pitches and business development as a subject matter expert
- Anticipate how AI will reshape organisational structures, information flows, and decision-making over 2-5 years
- Build forward-looking scenarios connecting emerging AI capabilities to operational change
- Challenge inherited assumptions about hierarchies and operating models and propose AI-native alternatives
- Lead internal enablement and workforce transformation training programs from week one
- Serve as a visible example of AI-first practice to drive cultural change
- Contribute to AI practice and solution architecture including agent orchestration and multi-agent coordination
- Evaluate and operationalise new AI tools, frameworks, and platforms continuously
- Support Merkle’s service lines with AI-native expertise integrating new paradigms into delivery
- Sustain partnerships with startups, university research groups, and open-source communities
- Help organise technical hackathons and experimentation sprints to test ideas before client engagements
Requirements
- Degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data, or a closely related technical discipline
- Engineering foundation is non-negotiable
- Several years of experience in AI consulting, software engineering, or data with direct client interaction and delivery accountability
- Professional fluency in English mandatory; German is a plus
- Strategic foresight and future scenario thinking
- AI-first orientation in workflows
- Deep practical literacy with generative AI tools, coding assistants, and agentic frameworks used daily
- Empathy and communicative precision
- Self-directed prioritisation and workload management
- Strong drive to learn and adapt to rapid change
- Nice to have: prior consulting, client-facing technical advisory, or forward-deployed engineering experience
