Full job description

Smadex is seeking a Data Science Lead to manage a team of 3-5 data analysts focused on analyzing large programmatic advertising datasets. Responsibilities include leading the team, prioritizing analytical requests, analyzing RTB data, creating automated BI frameworks, ensuring data quality, collaborating with product and engineering teams, and driving automated reporting strategies. Requirements include a technical degree in a quantitative field, 5+ years in data analysis or BI roles in digital advertising, 3+ years leading data teams, expert SQL skills, proficiency in Python or R, and strong communication skills. The role is full-time, hybrid with 2 days remote per week, located in Barcelona. Visa sponsorship is not provided.

What you'll do

  • Lead, mentor, and scale a team of 3-5 data analysts
  • Own the team’s operational workflow, prioritize analytical requests from cross-functional stakeholders, and optimize delivery timelines
  • Analyze massive, fast-moving RTB datasets to decode auction dynamics, diagnose market fluctuations, and identify revenue opportunities
  • Translate findings into automated, self-service BI frameworks to democratize data access and eliminate ad-hoc extraction
  • Define and implement frameworks for peer review, data validation, and documentation to ensure statistical accuracy
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Data Science, and Engineering to monitor performance signals and translate data trends into actionable product decisions
  • Drive strategy for automated reporting and data democratization to reduce ad-hoc data requests and enable independent data-driven decisions

Requirements

  • Technical degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or Data Science
  • 5+ years of experience in data-heavy analysis or business intelligence roles, with a proven track record in digital advertising or marketplace environments
  • 3+ years of experience leading, managing, or mentoring a team of data professionals
  • Expert-level mastery of SQL and strong capability to work independently in Python or R notebooks for advanced data manipulation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to synthesize complex technical anomalies or analytical conclusions into clear executive summaries for non-technical stakeholders
  • Work authorization required; no visa sponsorship provided
