Full job description Attain is seeking a senior Controller to lead and scale the accounting function, including monthly close, financial reporting, accounting operations (AP/AR/billing/collections), tax compliance, audit, controls, and accounting technology. The role requires strong U.S. GAAP knowledge, experience with NetSuite and other modern accounting systems, and a builder's mindset to drive automation and technical transformation using AI tools. Responsibilities include leading a team, designing workflows and integrations (Salesforce to NetSuite), automating accounting processes, resolving accounting issues, and establishing scalable controls and processes. CPA preferred. The position is based in Chicago, Illinois.

Design NetSuite workflows, build cross-system integrations (Salesforce to NetSuite), and automate billing to reconciliations using AI tools
Lead and develop the accounting team (currently 3 people)
Establish clear ownership and standards across all accounting domains
Serve as primary escalation point for accounting decisions and technical solutions
Review and resolve outstanding close items, reconciliations, and accounting questions
Debug NetSuite or integration issues, diagnose problems, fix or escalate
Design and implement automation to eliminate manual accounting work
Lead team meetings on close progress, accounting standards, or process improvements
Partner with Finance or other leaders on complex technical accounting questions and transactions
Respond to operational accounting questions from across the company
Identify bottlenecks and opportunities to build or automate solutions
Continuously improve financial close process to reduce close time and increase accuracy
Establish a strong, documented control environment supporting audit and regulatory requirements
Automate 5-8 meaningful accounting workflows and processes annually
Build a knowledgeable, well-documented accounting team
Transform accounting technology stack into a modern, integrated system connecting Salesforce, NetSuite, Ramp, and other tools
Own all routine and complex accounting conclusions independently
Establish clear processes and ownership across tax compliance, audit management, AP/AR operations, and accounting systems
Position accounting function as a strategic enabler of business growth Requirements Significant accounting leadership experience, ideally as a Controller or in a comparable senior accounting role CPA strongly preferred Strong U.S. GAAP and technical accounting expertise Experience leading audits and working directly with external auditors Comfort with modern accounting systems (NetSuite, Ramp, or comparable ERPs) Demonstrated ability to improve processes and systems, not just operate them Comfortable working with data, APIs, code, and automation Willingness to use AI coding tools (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) as part of day-to-day work Ability to operate independently in a fast-moving, complex environment Sound judgment about when to build internally, use automation, engage consultants, or involve engineering Tech stack U.S. GAAP NetSuite Salesforce Ramp AI tools Claude ChatGPT APIs automation
