Full job description
The Controller on the US Finance team will manage the US finance team, optimize the financial close process, strengthen internal controls, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Responsibilities include overseeing accounting operations in the US and Canada, managing month-end close, budget variance analysis, coordinating audits and tax returns, implementing SOX compliance, mentoring team members, and partnering with cross-functional teams. Requirements include a bachelor's or advanced degree in accounting or finance, CPA preferred, 7+ years of accounting/finance experience including public company or public accounting, 4+ years of people management, strong knowledge of US GAAP and SOX, multi-entity and multi-currency experience, and strong leadership and communication skills. Bonus points for experience in global adtech, and knowledge of NetSuite, ADP, or Salesforce. The role offers a hybrid work schedule with 3 days in-office in Los Angeles, California. Salary range is $175,000 to $200,000 USD with additional benefits including health, 401k, bonus, equity, PTO, and parental leave.
What you'll do
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the accounting function in the US and Canada
- Lead and mentor a team of 6 employees
- Manage shared accounting operations (AP, payroll, T&E) for the company and US subsidiary
- Provide support to additional subsidiaries
- Manage the financial month-end closing process ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Review and assess monthly budget/forecast to actual variance and prepare analysis
- Streamline month-end closing processes and maintain compliance
- Coordinate and act as liaison for year-end audit and tax returns
- Interact with external auditors, tax consultants, and other service providers
- Implement, support and oversee SOX compliance measures
- Implement new policies to meet departmental goals
- Maximize performance and contribution of team members through mentoring and development
- Partner with cross functional teams (Sales, Operations, HR, IT) to support company growth
Requirements
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- CPA or other relevant certification strongly preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- Public company and/or public accounting experience strongly preferred
- 4+ years of people management experience
- Management of other managers and teams of 3+ strongly preferred
- High technical accounting skills
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SOX
- Multi-Entity and multi-currency experience
- Strong leadership aptitude; ability to mentor talent and foster career development
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management
- Ability to foster and manage relationships across multiple departments
- Excellent project management, organizational, analytical and communication skills
- Self-motivated and able to balance multiple priorities while managing to deadlines
