Full job description

Merkle, a dentsu company, is seeking a hands-on Commerce Architect to design and oversee scalable e-commerce infrastructure on AWS. The role involves bridging business requirements with cloud-native solutions, owning the architectural roadmap to ensure high availability, security (PCI-DSS), and performance during peak traffic. Responsibilities include designing cloud-native architecture using AWS services, leading commerce engine integration with third-party systems, architecting for bursty traffic, ensuring compliance with security standards, driving migration to Headless/Composable Commerce, and managing AWS budgets with FinOps practices. Requirements include 7+ years software engineering experience, 3+ years in solution architecture, advanced AWS knowledge, experience with large-scale e-commerce platforms, microservices, API design, containerization, infrastructure as code, and database schema design. Nice-to-haves include event-driven architecture experience, retail/logistics background, and frontend framework knowledge. What you'll do

  • Design and maintain cloud-native architecture using AWS services to support high-volume transaction processing
  • Lead architectural design for commerce engine integration with third-party systems (ERPs, PIMs, OMS, Payment Gateways)
  • Architect solutions for bursty traffic using auto-scaling, caching strategies, and CDNs
  • Ensure architecture complies with PCI-DSS, GDPR/CCPA, and security best practices
  • Drive migration from monolithic to Headless/Composable Commerce architecture
  • Manage AWS budgets and implement FinOps best practices

Requirements

  • 7+ years in software engineering
  • 3+ years in Solution Architecture
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS ecosystem
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) preferred
  • Experience with large-scale e-commerce platforms (commercetools, Shopify Plus, Adobe Commerce/Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, or custom builds)
  • Experience with Microservices and API design (REST/GraphQL)
  • Strong understanding of Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation)
  • Experience designing schemas for relational (RDS/Aurora) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) databases
  • Knowledge of PCI-DSS, GDPR/CCPA compliance
  • Nice-to-have: event-driven architecture (Kafka, EventBridge, SQS/SNS)
  • Nice-to-have: background in retail, logistics, or supply chain technology
  • Nice-to-have: experience with frontend frameworks (React/Next.js/Vue)
