Full job description

FreeWheel, a Comcast company, offers an internship/co-op program for software engineering students. Interns will design, build, install, and maintain software applications, gather and interpret business requirements, and maintain codebases. Desired skills include NodeJS, Express, Python, Flask, Postgres, Athena/PrestoDB, Amazon Redshift, and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, OCI, or Microsoft Azure. Candidates should have 6 months to 2 years of software engineering experience, familiarity with version control tools, strong problem-solving skills, and effective communication. Eligibility requires enrollment as a rising junior or senior at a US college, availability for full-time summer work (June 1 to August 14, 2026), and authorization to work in the US without sponsorship. The position is on-site in Chicago, Illinois. Compensation is $32.00 per hour. Benefits include commissions or bonuses depending on role, and comprehensive support options.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, install, and maintain software applications/programs
  • Gather and interpret business requirements from product managers, business stakeholders, and other engineers
  • Code-base maintenance including decisions about refactoring, tech debt, and greenfield engineering
  • Exposure/experience designing, building, and debugging applications
  • Experience with Secure SDLC
  • Proficient with NodeJS + Express and/or Python + Flask
  • Experience using Postgres, Athena/PrestoDB, or Amazon Redshift
  • Experience with cloud environments including AWS, GCP, OCI, or Microsoft Azure
  • Basic understanding of security operations and risk

Requirements

  • 6 months - 2 years of experience in a Software Engineering or Software Development role
  • Familiarity with version control tools (Git, Bitbucket, Mercurial, or Subversion)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn
  • Effective communicator and enthusiastic collaborator
  • Exposure to common enterprise programming languages such as JavaScript, Golang, Python, C++, Java, C#, F#
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from a United States-based college or university
  • Rising Junior or Rising Senior only (must have a graduation date between Winter 2026 - Spring 2028)
  • Returning to degree-program for at least a semester after the internship
  • Available to work 40 hours per week from June 1, 2026, through August 14, 2026
  • Authorized to work in the United States with no current or future sponsorship needs
  • Available to report in-person to the work location on the job posting
