Full job description

FreeWheel, a Comcast company, is seeking a Senior C++ Software Engineer for the Buyercloud Ad Serving team. The role involves designing and building data-driven features, scaling distributed applications, optimizing algorithms to reduce cloud costs, supporting observability, participating in on-call rotations, and writing documentation. Candidates should have a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field, 5+ years of software engineering experience, strong knowledge of system design, performance optimization, and software architecture. Experience with compiled languages (C++ preferred), Linux ecosystem, and working across multiple time zones is required. The position is full-time, based in Chicago, Illinois. Salary range is $109,759.26 to $164,638.89. Benefits include bonuses, comprehensive support, and personalized tools.

What you'll do

  • Design and build data-driven and model-driven features for customers to execute marketing campaigns effectively
  • Scale distributed application and infrastructure
  • Optimize algorithms and software architectures to reduce cloud hosting costs
  • Support and extend observability stack to capture and alert on issues
  • Participate in on-call rotations and serve as escalation contact for service incidents
  • Write systems documentation, playbooks, and instructional manuals
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in significant matters
  • Maintain regular attendance and work variable schedules including nights and weekends
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Five years of software engineering experience
  • Deep understanding of building systems at scale
  • Experience with optimizing performance, scaling and data modeling
  • Strong grasp of software architecture
  • Significant experience with compiled languages such as C++, Java, Rust, and Go (C++ preferred)
  • Experience working in a Linux ecosystem
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work with team members in multiple remote locations and time zones
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations and be an escalation contact for service incidents
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance, including ability to work nights and weekends as necessary
