Full job description
The Trade Desk seeks a Business Development Director to lead sales and expand presence in the Political & Advocacy sector. The role involves managing the full sales cycle with political agencies and advocacy organizations, exceeding seven-figure revenue targets, advising clients on AI-driven platform capabilities, and collaborating with internal teams for campaign execution. Candidates must have 7+ years in political/advocacy advertising, strong programmatic platform knowledge, a strategic network, and excellent communication skills. The position is hybrid with in-office work Tuesday through Thursday in Washington, DC. Base salary range is $100,600 to $184,400 USD.
What you'll do
- Identify, pursue, and close high-value partnerships with political agencies, national committees, and advocacy organizations
- Own a significant book of business and consistently exceed seven-figure revenue targets
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, mapping platform’s AI-driven capabilities to campaign goals, district-level targeting, and voter file integrations
- Partner with Account Management and Trading teams to ensure seamless campaign activation and optimization
- Represent the company as a thought leader at industry events and contribute to industry publications
- Maintain rigorous forecasting and deal-tracking
- Provide actionable feedback to the Product team to shape political-specific roadmap and data partnership integrations
Requirements
- 7+ years of dedicated experience in Political and Advocacy advertising
- Deep understanding of the unique pressures and KPIs of Political and Advocacy organizations
- Strong knowledge of programmatic platforms (DSPs/DMPs), real-time bidding, and identity landscape
- Established network of decision-makers across political agencies and advocacy groups
- Proven ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-changing environments with rapid response and strategic pivoting
