Full job description

Merkle, a dentsu company, is seeking a proactive and collaborative Java/Kotlin Developer to work in cross-functional teams on modern digital platforms. The role involves developing and maintaining backend services, designing scalable and secure microservices, collaborating with product owners and engineers, contributing to architecture decisions, ensuring code quality, working on CI/CD pipelines, and optimizing system performance. Requirements include solid experience with Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, event-driven systems, CI/CD, DevOps, cloud environments, SQL/NoSQL databases, agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), strong problem-solving, communication skills, and fluency in English and German. The position is full-time, mid-level, with hybrid remote work options, located in Zürich, Switzerland. What you'll do

  • Develop and maintain backend services using Java/Kotlin
  • Design and implement scalable and secure microservices
  • Collaborate closely with product owners, designers, and other engineers
  • Contribute to architecture decisions and technical improvements
  • Ensure code quality through testing, code reviews, and best practices
  • Work on CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
  • Continuously optimize system performance and reliability
  • Actively participate in agile ceremonies and team discussions

Requirements

  • Solid experience with Java and/or Kotlin
  • Experience working with Spring Boot and modern backend architectures
  • Understanding of microservices architecture
  • Experience with REST APIs and event-driven systems
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud environments
  • Knowledge of databases (SQL/NoSQL)
  • Experience working in agile teams (Scrum/Kanban)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a structured way of thinking
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
  • Fluency in English and German
